Run a cash register inventory
Beginner 10 min Updated 27 June 2026
Inventory lets you record quantities found for cash register items eligible for inventory.
- Only lines where you enter a quantity are saved; an empty line is ignored.
- To force zero quantity, enter 0 explicitly.
- The default date is today (change it if your procedure requires).
Only items with Inventory set to Active appear β see Configure cash register items.
Procedure
- At the top right of the Cash register screen, open the Cash register menu, then Inventory.
- Check the displayed date and adjust if needed.
- For each item in the list, enter the counted quantity. Leave blank any line you do not want to include.
- For zero stock, enter 0.
- Confirm (OK, Save, etc.).
After counting, you can check consistency in the Stocks report: see Review stock positions. If a count line shows a variance, see Correct a count variance.
Common issues
- Item missing: enable Inventory / Active on the item in settings.
- Quantity not saved: a blank field is not recorded; enter the value, including 0.
- Variance shown in Stocks: normal when the count differs from the calculation; see the FAQ Why does a variance appear on an inventory or stock position?.
